The learning and development areas

- Children have a strong sense of identity

Pilates provides children with core stability, improved balance, coordination and motor control. This promotes a positive self concept and the possession of skills that are essential for success in their activities of choice, whether it be ballet and gymnastics or soccer and football.

- Children are connected with and contribute to their world

Pilates provides an important level of self awareness and insight to why we need to become active from an early age. A Pilates program instills in children healthy aspects of living which can be incorporated into everyday life. Each exercise is explained with a fun connection to how it can improve their strengths and to what areas of life it can be applied.

- Children have a strong sense of well being

According to the World Health Organization "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." (2012). Well being includes being strong, fit and healthy both physically and mentally. Pilates programs teach  children how to concentrate, follow directions and use their minds and muscles simultaneously.

- Children are effective communicators

The Pilates Program is reliant on effective communication. The children must learn how to follow instructions both verbal and nonverbal. They then must concentrate on what they are doing and reproduce the instructor’s movements . By observing the children’s movements and their verbal communication, the Pilates instructor can tailor the program to address their needs.
